“Because we have a lot in common!”: This is the motto under which the Urban Renewal Area Offices welcome new residents and invite them to celebrate good neighborly relations.
Vienna (OTS) – The neighborhood weeks of the urban renewal area support have a long tradition: Every year, togetherness is celebrated in Vienna’s “new and old” neighborhoods. In autumn, neighborhoods are celebrated in the Nordbahnviertel in the 2nd district, in Neu Leopoldau in the 21st district and in Atzgersdorf in the 23rd district. In October, the focus is on togetherness in Berresgasse in the 22nd and in the Garage Grande in the 16th district.
To good neighbors!
Good neighborhood is a place where we feel at home and stand up for each other. We can rely on good neighbors. A conversation on the doorstep, an open ear, a helping hand – neighborhoods create belonging, connect and a good neighborhood also becomes active together!
“In Vienna’s urban development areas, we create affordable housing for the Viennese. New offers and additional infrastructure bring more quality of life for the future residents of the Grätzl – and for everyone who lives in neighboring districts. The district managements of the GB* offer a wide range and inform the future residents regarding news. This creates a strong neighborhood in which everyone can help shape their neighborhood,” says Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Women and Housing Kathrin Gaál.
All participants can look forward to a varied program with guided tours through the areas, exchange with experts and the neighborhood, information offers and activities to get involved.
Neighborhood Week Nordbahnviertel | September 3-8, 2023
GB*district management, Nordbahnstraße 14, 1020 Vienna
On the site of the former Nordbahnhof in the 2nd district, a new district is being created with the Nordbahnviertel. The neighborhood week offers the opportunity to discover the new city district! To start with, the GB* will provide information on developments in the area and gardening in the city at the “Vienna Housing Construction Day”. Also on the weekly program: a guided tour through the urban wilderness, open-air cinema fun, “coffee in all languages” and a big neighborhood festival.

Neighborhood Week Neu Leopoldau | September 11-15, 2023
GB* District Management, Menzelstraße 8, Staircase 2 (local opposite Trafohaus), 1210 Vienna
On the site of the former Leopoldau gasworks, a new district for living, working and living was built on 13.5 hectares. The GB*district management supports the residents when they arrive and when they set up neighborhood networks and initiatives. These present themselves at an “open day” and at a large neighborhood festival. The new Gaswerkspark is a sporty place and on a guided tour through the district you can hear, see and explore historical and future aspects of the quarter.

Neighborhood Week Atzgersdorf | September 19-21, 2023

Liesing is also on the upswing. On former fallow land and industrial areas in Atzgersdorf and In der Wiesen new neighborhoods and new neighborhoods. During a tour, the “on foot Grätzl” around the new Atzgersdorf city park is explored. The “Liesing from above” district walk takes you up high. Included are not only spectacular views – the GB* also shows what is possible on community terraces and Co. together. Another highlight of the neighborhood week is a big festival in Carré Atzgersdorf on Gustav-Holzmann-Platz. Music, fun and good company guaranteed.

Neighborhood Week Berresgasse | October 3-6, 2023

On the area north of Berresgasse, right next to the Hirschstetten bathing pond in the 22nd district, a new district with apartments, offices, shops, leisure facilities, a school and kindergarten is being built. The varied program of the neighborhood week in the 22nd district ranges from a rubbish collection rally to a tour of the construction site and a neighborhood festival.

Neighborhood Week Garage Grande | October 3-7, 2023
Garage Grande, Deinhardsteingasse 12-16, 1160 Vienna
In the Garage Grande, a GB* temporary use project in Ottakring, there is space for gardening, for DIY projects, sports and exercise, for playing, cooling off or learning. Over the last few years, a temporary neighborhood meeting place that everyone likes to use has emerged here in the Grätzl. During the neighborhood week there is an opportunity to get to know the garage and some of the actors. On the program: a guided tour with honey tasting, yoga, upcycling, table tennis, aikido taster training, screen printing, cooking, bicycle workshop, clothes swap and a cozy exchange in the café next door.
