Gaál/Jagsch/Nevrivy: The “Neighbor Treasure” brings Graetzlbudget for Graetzlideen in two districts | PID press

Grätzlide ideas for a good neighborhood are now being sought for a district in Hernals and for Berresgasse in Donaustadt

Vienna (OTS) The “Neighbor Treasure” initiative of the Urban Renewal Department (GB*) is entering the next round – and this year the “Neighbor Treasure” can be raised twice! In Hernals, the area around Leopold-Kunschak-Platz becomes a project area for good Grätzlideen and in Donaustadt neighborhood ideas for the Berresgasse urban development area are supported. In the first phase, ideas can be submitted and residents can register for the Grätzlrat, the residents’ jury. The Grätzlrat then decides which ideas will be shared with the neighbors.

3,000 euros each “Neighbor Treasure” for the best Grätzl projects.

After the good feedback last year – in the Hernalser Grätzl around Clemens-Hofbauer-Platz two creative workshops, a street festival and an intercultural neighborhood picnic were selected by the Grätzlrat and realized thanks to the neighbor treasure – the Grätzlbudget 2023 will start in two areas: in Hernals and in Donaustadt. “With the ‘Neighbor Treasure’, the local residents have a say in the design of their neighborhood – from a picnic to get to know each other, lunch outside or cooking in the neighborhood to barter campaigns, neighborly gardening or repair workshops. And each and every individual can contribute to a successful cooperation. The ‘neighbour treasure’, the budget for your idea, will support you!” says Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Women and Housing Kathrin Gaál at the start of the two initiatives.

Who shares the “neighbour treasure” is decided democratically: by a Grätzlrat, which is made up of people who know the project area because they live, work and live here. The ideas selected by the Grätzlrat will be supported with a total of 3,000 euros.

In Hernals, GB* is looking for ideas for the area between Alszeile and Hernalser Hauptstraße, which stretches from Wattgasse to Güpferlingstraße. Leopold-Kunschak-Platz, which is to be redesigned and upgraded in the coming years, is also located here. The social neighborhood is to be strengthened through projects such as the “Neighbor Treasure”. A total of 3,000 euros is available for the implementation of Grätzl projects.

“I’m happy about the Graetzlbudget for good neighborliness in Hernals and the many new ideas that can be submitted and thus implemented. I find measures that promote living together and strengthen cohesion positive,” says District Manager Peter Jagsch.

People who also live and/or work in the vicinity of Leopold-Kunschak-Platz and who are familiar with life in the district can register for the Grätzlrat. The Grätzlrat meets once in June (3.6.) and selects up to five ideas that share the neighboring treasure.

Neighbor treasure: This is how the “budget for your idea” works

A well-functioning and livable neighborhood is a valuable treasure that needs to be nurtured, cherished and preserved together. Neighborhoods create belonging, joint activities connect and strengthen the sense of togetherness. With the project “Neighbour Treasure”, the urban renewal departments (GB*) support neighborhood activities – with a budget for ideas and with know-how for the implementation of project ideas. Residents can become active. Ideas for the living environment and the Grätzl are brought in by the local people and selected by the neighbours.

“The neighbor’s treasure is a good opportunity to become active in the district! It doesn’t matter whether you’ve had an idea that makes the Grätzl more liveable for a long time, or whether you still need inspiration: We’re happy to advise and help with the submission,” says Magdalena Hubauer from GB*District Management Berresgasse.
