The G7 countries (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, as well as Japan and the USA) are discussing the issue of imposing a ban on exports to Russia for almost all goods. This was reported “Kyodo” citing a source in the Japanese government. According to the interlocutor of the agency, the new restrictions may affect the supply of used cars, tires, beauty products and clothing.

However, earlier today, April 21, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura at a press conference in Tokyo declined to comment on the possibility of a total ban on exports to Russia. He noted that this issue “concerns diplomatic negotiations.”

As part of the sanctions, Japan has already stopped the export of cars worth more than 6 million yen (regarding $45,000) to Russia. At the end of 2022, used cars accounted for 41.4% of total Japanese exports to Russia, TASS writes. In total, regarding 205 thousand used cars were delivered to the country over the past year, which is 34% more than in 2021.

On April 20, Bloomberg reported on the discussion by the G7 countries of the introduction of a trade embargo. According to the agency, instead of banning the export of individual goods, as is happening now, countries plan to ban all exports to Russia, allowing the supply of a limited list of goods. Officials are discussing the idea ahead of the May G7 leaders’ summit in Japan, scheduled for May 19-21.
