G. Landsbergis: We will continue our cooperation with the Liberal Movement

TS-LKD relied on this when forming a coalition,” the leader of the conservatives told LRT, adding that before that the parties cooperated while working in the opposition, even though the case had already started.

“I think, nevertheless, we will continue that cooperation. On the other hand, we must not forget that there is a higher authority and they intend to continue the path of justice provided by law. However, I would like to emphasize that the culprits are found, responsibility is assumed, and efforts are being made to prevent this from happening again. For all others active in politics, this is a reminder that the Lithuanian justice system is functioning and capable of being effective. It takes time, but justice is done,” said G. Landsbergis.

BNS reminds that on Wednesday the Court of Appeal convicted all the defendants in the political corruption case of the concern “MG Grupė” (previously called “MG Baltic”), and some of them were sentenced to actual prison sentences.

Almost 377 thousand were allocated to the Liberal Movement and the Labor Party, respectively. and more than 301 thousand EUR fines.

Raimondis Kurlianskis, the former vice president of MG Baltic, was sentenced to six years in prison and almost 19,000 fines. EUR fine, the former leader of the Liberal Movement, Eligijas Masiulis, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

Labor Party representative Vytautas Gapšys was also found guilty and sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

Almost 19,000 were allocated to former liberals Šarūnas Gustainiis and Gintaras Steponavičius, respectively. and more than 15 thousand EUR fines. G. Steponavičius was convicted of abuse, in the absence of evidence of bribery.

The judgment of the Court of Appeal enters into force immediately, on the day of publication, but may still be appealed to the Supreme Court of Lithuania.
