G. Landsbergis summoned E. Bajarūnas to Vilnius for consultations

As informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), G. Landsbergis signed a ministerial order on Monday, temporarily suspending the functions of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Sultanate of Oman and Portugal Ambassador E. Bajarūnas from October 19 until the constructive and productive work of the representative office is restored. .

By order, the Minister assigned Ambassador E. Bajarūnas to perform functions in the Strategic Management and Analysis Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, related to the preparation of a strategy for strengthening transatlantic relations.

Accused of mobbing

The Lithuanian ambassador to the United Kingdom, E. Bajarūnas, was accused of mobbing employees, and after the investigation, the inspectors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented him with unfavorable conclusions.

News portal Delphi was the first to announce that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started investigations into the possible inappropriate behavior of E. Bajarūnas and another ambassador – Lithuania’s representative to NATO Deividas Matulionis.

This was later confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis.

As announced Delphiat the end of September, representatives of the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the Lithuanian Embassy in London, who carried out an assessment of the situation and interviewed a dozen employees of the diplomatic mission.

It has been established that E. Bajarūnas communicates incorrectly and impolitely with employees, many of them have experienced public insults, bullying, humiliating criticism, manifestations of verbal aggression.

According to the news portal, the employees pointed out that the ambassador is not able to separate private interests from public ones, possibly abusing his official position.

E. Bajarūnas held a press conference, where he categorically rejected the accusations and said that he had become a tool of political struggle.

The long-time diplomat explained that the inspector general, who wrote down the negative conclusions, carrying out the orders of the ministry’s leadership, selectively interviewed only a part of the people, the conclusions were leaked to the press, and he himself was not heard.

E. Bajarūnas claims that he experiences psychological violence from the MFA and requests an independent investigation.

The Presidency also addressed the Government with a request to evaluate the facts presented by the ambassador.
