G. Landsbergis: India’s growth provides opportunities to diversify economic ties

He participated in a discussion at the Raisina Dialogue conference on sustainable risk reduction and a new North-South partnership on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said.

“Freedom is part of Lithuania’s genetic code, but we were among the first in Europe to understand the harm of addictions. We took ambitious steps, especially in energy, which allowed us to get rid of this dependence. At the same time, we have long learned the lesson that it is necessary to diversify our economic relations. India’s economic growth and dynamism provide extraordinary opportunities for this”, G. Landsbergis is quoted in the report.

Discussing Lithuania’s experience related to China’s economic coercion, Minister G. Landsbergis emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen economic resilience.

The head of Lithuanian diplomacy warned about the increasing activity of authoritarian states and drew attention to their efforts to challenge the rules-based international order. He emphasized the importance of strengthening global security measures and firmly supporting Ukraine.

This year, special attention is paid to the Baltic and Nordic countries at the “Raisina Dialogue” conference, the foreign ministers of these countries participated, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

G. Landsbergis met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during the Raisina Dialogue security conference.

The minister’s rhetoric reflects the West’s efforts to win over the countries of the Global South, as experts in recent years have observed increasing cooperation between authoritarian states in challenging democracies.

Russia and India have maintained close ties since the 6th century of the last century, uninterrupted despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
