In the meeting with the Lithuanian Motor Sports Federations, Lithuanian Motorcycle Sports Federations and the Association of Lithuanian Technical Sports Federations, the vision of the development and expansion of the “Nemunas Ring” and the nearest works were discussed.
“Taking into account the needs and expectations expressed by the sports community, we agree that the track should be renovated in stages. The common goal of all of us is to have a high-quality car and motorcycle track in Lithuania, which would be professionally maintained, maximally and transparently accessible and safe for athletes,” said the minister.
This year part of the track was asphalted, next year it is planned to carry out part of the works, which the sports community named as the most important and related to increasing the safety of the track. It is intended to manage part of the slip zones, to prepare fences, monitoring systems and others. It is planned that after the preparation of the technical project next year, other stages of work will be laid out, and annual investments will be planned.
The only ring road for cars and motorcycles in Lithuania “Nemunas ring” was built in 1961, since 1987 it has been partially renovated.
In the spring, an inter-institutional memorandum on the reconstruction of the circular race track “Nemunas Ring” for cars and motorcycles was signed by the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Communications, the Kaunas District Municipality and the Association of Lithuanian Technical Sports Federations.
According to the ministry, the aim of renovating the base is to create a safe and attractive national and regional level track that meets international technical sports standards.
