FW-Pisec/FW-Walter: “Package of climate protection measures disappointed!” | Free economy, May 19, 2023

Only the ambitions of the construction lobby are represented…

Vienna (OTS) At the Economic Parliament on May 17, 2023, the green economy, together with the Economic Association and the other parliamentary groups, presented a two-page paper as a “package of measures for climate protection”, which turned out to be an advertisement from the construction lobby.

The Liberal Economy Vienna categorically rejects the demands it contains on the City of Vienna to redesignate the building classes with the approval of high-rise buildings in the city center. FW-Pisec: “Curiously, the term environment does not appear at all in this climate protection application. Climate protection without green planting of trees and meadows, even in small areas, will not work. We can therefore under no circumstances approve an application that is directed once morest Vienna’s existing UNESCO World Heritage Site and the building regulations. The fact that the President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce owns a construction company can only be a coincidence, says Pisec.”

FW-Walter: “Instead of high-rise buildings for noble clients, it would make more sense to put the many empty office properties on the market as apartments. Every fourth office space in Vienna is unused! Against this background, further densification with rededications in the inner-city area is not necessary at all as a construction measure. The many glass buildings that have already been erected with energy-wasting air conditioning systems and heating effects from sun reflections are already heating up the urban climate enough and can by no means pass as a “package of measures for climate protection”, criticizes the President of the Free Economy Vienna Ronald Walter.”

We demand climate protection with the involvement of the citizens, because economy and society have to form a unit. The Vienna Chamber of Commerce is one of the beneficiaries of the inflation, with annual revenues increasing by 10% in 2021-2022 alone. It would be up to the WK-Vienna to return part of this additional income from the chamber contributions, which are linked to inflation, to all compulsory members.
