With consumer prices continuing to rise, it is more than legitimate to hope for wage increases. In fact, a recruitment firm carried out a study to determine what the revaluations would be this year and in 2024. After having read the results of this survey, we are able to reveal the important elements to you.

A recruitment firm conducted a survey to estimate future salary increases

Conducted by the recruitment firm “PageGroup”, this survey has just been published in the newspaper “Le Parisien”. But it only confirmed the figures obtained by the LHH institute, another recruitment firm, revealed last August. In reality, the rates obtained are not perfectly similarbut still very close.

Because “PageGroup” announced a salary increase of 4.5 % in 2023 and LHH an increase of 4.7 %. If this doesn’t seem like much to you, compare these results to older figures and you will see that the increase is quite significant. Indeed, between 1996 and 2018, INSEE calculated an increase in salaries of only 0.6%.

Unfortunately for 2024, the forecast is not as good. Because the recruitment firm which transmitted the results of its study to “Parisien” counted on an increase in salaries of only 1.5 to 4%.

Moderate enthusiasm

2023 is therefore a good year for workers. But it might not be otherwise with the current situation. Galloping inflation has only weakened the purchasing power of the French. For this year, INSEE estimated it at 5%. Thus, we would have to reach, at least, this figure to hope to preserve the purchasing power of consumers. With 4.7%, we are not far from it, but as the general director of “PageGroupe” France recalled, prices have increased so significantly and quickly that in two years, we have not yet caught up with the level of inflation.

Furthermore, even if the recruitment firms which carried out these surveys estimated that more than 90% of companies planned salary increases for their employees, some will not benefit from it. Another firm also stated that 48% of men and 45% of women aged 45 to 65 said they had not received a raise in the last twelve months.

Decisive salary increases in certain areas of activity

To complete its study, the firm “PageGroup” also tried to determine which areas of activity would see the most salary increases in 2024. And according to it, these are the branches exposed to labor shortages. Indeed, offering higher salaries helps attract more candidates.

Thus, it is the technicians and engineers who will benefit according to this study. Specifically, maintenance technicians might see their salaries increase by 4% to 8%. Technical operations directors from 6 to 8% and QHSE managers from 9 to 11%.

There should also be significant increases in IT and more specifically in the field of cybersecurity.
