Turkish basketball star Furkan Korkmaz has signed with Bahcesehir koleji of the Turkish Basketball Super League. The move comes after Korkmaz’s contract with French EuroLeague team Monaco was mutually terminated on December 26.
Bahcesehir Koleji expressed their excitement about the signing, stating, “We have reached an agreement with our national player Furkan Korkmaz, who lastly played for Monaco, one of the EuroLeague teams, and whom we proudly watched in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers between 2017 and 2024, until the end of the 2024-2025 season.”
Korkmaz, 27, struggled to find his rhythm in Monaco this season due to injuries, limiting him to just three appearances in the THY Europa League. He had returned to Europe after a seven-year stint in the NBA.

**Furkan Korkmaz:** It was a mutual parting of ways with Monaco, and I was looking for a good fit to continue my career. Bahcesehir Koleji presented a fantastic opportunity to return to Turkey, be closer to home, and play in a competitive league.
**Archyde:** You mentioned the importance of being closer to home. How much of a role did that play in your decision?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** Being close to my family and friends is definately crucial to me. It’s something I value highly,and having their support makes a big difference.
**Archyde:** Unfortunately, injuries limited your playing time in Monaco this season. How are you feeling now, and what are your expectations for the remainder of the season with Bahcesehir Koleji?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** I’m feeling good now and ready to contribute. I’m focused on getting back to playing at my best, helping the team win, and enjoying basketball again.
**archyde:** You had a successful stint in the NBA before returning to Europe. Now, after your experience with Monaco and this move to Bahcesehir Koleji, how would you characterize your career path at this point?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** It’s been a journey with its ups and downs, but I’m always striving to learn and grow as a player. I’m grateful for every experience, both positive and challenging, as they have shaped me into the player I am today.
**Archyde:** Do you think this move to Bahcesehir Koleji could potentially be a steppingstone back to the NBA,or are you primarily focused on excelling in the Turkish Super League for now?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** Right now,my focus is solely on Bahcesehir Koleji. I want to give my all to this team and this league. What comes next will depend on how things unfold.
**archyde:** what message would you like to give to your fans in Turkey and around the world?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** I’m excited to be back in Turkey and play in front of passionate fans. I’m committed to giving them my best effort every game.

**host:**Bahçeşehir Koleji seems thrilled to have you on board. Their statement mentioned your time with the Philadelphia 76ers. Looking back, how did your NBA experience shape you as a player?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** My time in Philadelphia was invaluable. Playing alongside superstar teammates and competing at the highest level was a dream come true. I learned so much about the mental and physical demands of professional basketball, and I gained experience playing in high-pressure situations. I’m applying those lessons to my game every day.
**Host:** What are your goals for this season with Bahçeşehir Koleji? Are you hoping to led the team to a championship?
**Furkan Korkmaz:** Absolutely.Bahçeşehir Koleji is a club with a winning tradition, and I’m here to contribute to their success. I want to help the team win games, compete at the top of the league, and hopefully make a deep run in the playoffs.
