Fernando Alonso (Alpine) was furious over the radio about the contact accident with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) on the opening lap of the F1 Round 14 Belgian Grand Prix.
“What an idiot! He closed the door from the outside. He got off to a great start, but he only knows how to start from the top!”
When Hamilton turned in at Les Combe (Turn 5) on the first lap, he touched Alonso on the inside side. The No. 44 Mercedes W13 floated in the air and hit the road hard when it fell.
Alonso continued the race to a satisfying sixth place finish, but Hamilton was forced to retire. It was an uncharacteristic mistake for a seven-time F1 champion.
“It’s nothing to react to,” Hamilton said of Alonso’s rant after the race.
“But it’s kind of nice to know what he thinks of me, and it’s been public. It wasn’t intentional, but I’m responsible for it. is what an adult would do.”
The stewards determined that the incident was a racing incident. He didn’t take any action, but Hamilton admitted that it was “definitely my fault”.
“It’s a race, so I gave it my all. I tried to overtake on the outside at Turn 5, but I didn’t have enough space, so I paid the price.”
Hamilton lost the honor of being the only driver to complete all races this season due to his crash.
