Funny Imaginary Christmas Gifts for Belgian Politicians

2023-12-23 06:05:00

Every Christmas, it’s the same story. There are those who say “no gifts this year”, those who want to give them to everyone and those who discover on December 23 that the next day is New Year’s Eve.

For the big imaginary Christmas Eve of our political representatives, we imagined a “peanut”. The DH editorial staff determined a list of names and drew lots to whom these politicians should offer an imaginary gift.

De Wever offers a French-Dutch dictionary to Bouchez

The first to get involved is Bart de Wever. The president of the Flemish nationalists took the name of Georges-Louis Bouchez. The president of the French-speaking Liberals recently visited Antwerp City Hall, but encountered some difficulties when communicating his message in Dutch. Bart De Wever decided to give him a special gift: “Een woordenboek Frans-Nederlands” (A French-Dutch dictionary).

Bouchez offers a jersey from the first Francs-Borains match to Rajae Maouane

For Georges-Louis Bouchez, the name drawn is that of Rajae Maouane, co-president of Ecolo. Without hesitation, the president of the MR draws: “A Francs Borains club jersey because she is a football fan. Signed by the players and worn during our first match in the Pro League challenger (D2) with a victory against Zulte Waregem 1-3.”

Georges-Louis Bouchez and the MR react to the Rajae Maouane affair: “She knew who she was talking to”

Rajae Maouane chooses Fatima Ouassak’s latest book for François de Smet

Here is Rajae Maouane responsible for giving a Christmas gift to François De Smet. The president of DéFI will receive Fatima Ouassak’s latest book, “For a pirate ecology”. “It is a book which reminds us, like others before it, why the ecological project, profoundly liberal, is the best shield against the extreme right,” slips the Brussels resident.

François De Smet opts for a diplomatic visa under the tree in Hadja Lahbib

“Apparently this is achieved very easily and without having to be held accountable,” he comments. François de Smet is therefore commissioned to offer a gift to Hadja Lahbib (MR). For the head of Belgian diplomacy, the head of the amaranth bet went to get “a diplomatic visa” to put in Santa’s bag.

Hadja Lahbib offers Belgian blues from Arno’s “TC Matic” album to Céline Tellier

Hadja Lahbib (MR) would offer music to the Walloon Minister of the Environment Céline Tellier: Arno’s album, “TC Matic”, her favorite period. “Even if he has disappeared, Arno will forever be part of the Belgian musical landscape. His talent, his humor and his tenderness continue to accompany me… and I love sharing it. For you Céline, a bit of crazy Belgian rock & blues!”

Céline Tellier offers an experience where silence is required for Raoul Hedebouw

Céline Tellier wants to take advantage of this peanut to allow Raoul Hedebouw, the president of the PTB who is passionate about ornithology, to live the unique experience of Wild Dawn in a canoe on the Virelles pond. “It’s an immersion as close as possible to nature, when the life of the pond awakens and a unique opportunity to observe birds at daybreak. This moment when we are obliged to be as silent as possible invites reflection and is a great source of inspiration.”

Raoul Hedebouw offers the vinyl of Dalida “Paroles mots” to Paul Magnette

Raoul Hedebouw wishes to delight the ears of the president of the PS, Paul Magnette. Under the tree of the mayor of Charleroi, the Marxist would place Dalida’s vinyl “Julien”, on which we find the song “Paroles… mots…”, because “she is a wonderful singer”. “The distance between actions and words is not always found only in song.”

Paul Magnette responds to Raoul Hedebouw

Paul Magnette offers nothing for Theo Francken and the Flemish nationalists

Paul Magnette, the man who likes to be choosy with the media and carefully selects his appearances in the Belgian press, did not wish to play our game of imaginary peanuts. Just like Elio Di Rupo, the president of the French-speaking socialists refused to participate, depriving Theo Francken of a gift.

Theo Francken chooses a book on the dangers of TikTok for Ludivine Dedonder

It was Theo Francken (N-VA) who was responsible for finding a gift for Ludivine Dedonder (PS). For the Minister of Defense, never short of a humorous capsule on social networks, the federal deputy found a work entitled “The TikTok System” or “how the Chinese platform shapes our lives”.

Ludivine Dedonder offers a pass for the Ramdam festival to Maxime Prévot

What did Ludivine Dedonder choose for Maxime Prévot, president of Les Engagés and mayor of the Walloon capital? “The city of Namur organizes the international French-speaking film festival… We, in Tournai, like to shake things up and so we have Ramdam, the disturbing film festival! So I would offer for my Christmas peanut, a pass for Ramdam.”

Maxime Prévot to Alexander De Croo: plasters to plug the gaps

Finally, Maxime Prévot took out the medicine box for Prime Minister Alexander De Croo because health is the priority of the Engaged. “However, his team has significantly reduced the healthcare budget. He will also find plasters there given its intensive use to plug gaps and avoid structural reforms. A muscle balm for constant large gaps between partners. Vitamins for fitness. And as a kind wink: a bicycle helmet (given its fall last June) accompanied by a discovery tour of Namur.” Alexander De Croo, who clearly has a ministerial agenda, was unable to answer us. So the peanut stops here.
