In Piura, funnel clouds were recorded, a phenomenon of which there are no previous records in the north of the country. As is known, currently the entire area has been suffering from incessant showers and thunderstorms.
In this regard, the specialist in atmospheric issues Abraham Levy commented that these funnel clouds were captured in Sechura, but that residents of other nearby towns have recently seen the same phenomenon, even in the Guayas region, in Ecuador.
funnel clouds explained
“This is called wind shear and it is due to the fact that Piura is an atmospheric caldera. If this comes to touch the ground it can form a whirlwind. We are seeing things that we did not see before. In the last four days in Piura, 200 millimeters of rain have fallen, that is a lot of water, ”he remarked.
However, Abraham Levy asserted that these clouds would not generate a tornado. “For these funnel clouds to make landfall, they must be strong enough to move toward the surface. That has not happened. we’re not talking regarding tornadoes like those that occur in the United States, but they are whirlwinds, but it is something very unique. I have never seen this in the north of Peru ”, he concluded.
It should be noted that the weather conditions that have been occurring in northern Peru make specialists consider the possibility of an El Niño phenomenon to be very high, which would occur in the second half of 2023.
