The funeral of the mother and her son killed in their home in Denderhoutem took place on Saturday morning at the Siesegem crematorium in Aalst. Around 500 people attended the ceremony.
On November 11, the bodies of a 54-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son were found in a home in Denderhoutem, in the entity of Haaltert. Shortly before the events, the fifty-year-old had reported threats. The 51-year-old suspect, husband and father-in-law of the victims, was arrested before being released since there was no question of physical violence. Despite a ban on contact, the man nevertheless went to the home of his ex-partner to kill her and her son.
The fifty-year-old then probably ended his life. The vehicle of the alleged perpetrator was in fact noticed near the Dendre and witnesses indicated having seen a man jump into the water. A body was recovered from the river on Friday but the autopsy which will take place on Sunday, according to the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office, will have to determine whether it is indeed the person concerned.
