French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte were spotted walking towards Westminster, London, in outfits that shocked Britons.
On Sunday September 18, on the eve of the state funeral of Elizabeth II, dignitaries from around the world arrived in London. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte were notably present. The couple gathered in front of the coffin of Elizabeth II, before going to Buckingham Palace in the early evening for the first major diplomatic meeting of King Charles III. More than 200 leaders had been invited.
However, it is the outfits of the President of the Republic and his wife that have caused controversy. In the early followingnoon, the couple were seen walking around Westminster, “incognito”, sunglasses on their noses and sneakers on their feet, in order to see the queue and share the pain of the British people. On this occasion, Emmanuel Macron had put on a sober dark navy blue jacket, anthracite gray pants and black sneakers. A look similar to that of the First Lady.

Among the British, the gesture went badly, and even shocked. Some media have denounced a look that is too casual to go and collect in front of the queen. “Black glasses and sneakers. How regarding jogging too? How disrespectful!” said one commentator.
In reality, the English got a little carried away. Indeed, the couple had put on more formal outfits shortly following to gather at Westminster Hall.
