Sharjah24: Inquisitive youth eager to enrich their knowledge of film production learned valuable lessons and gained productive insights on budgeting and scheduling during a workshop titled ‘Film Budgeting’ at the 9th Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF).
In a hands-on, step-by-step process, Trainer Mohammed Al Kindy guided aspiring filmmakers at SIFF 2022 and provided a comprehensive overview of producing a realistic budget and schedule while also educating them on the role of pre-production in filmmaking.
A practical budgeting assignment was demonstrated using the example of a short film created by one of the participants that was then screened and analysed by the trainer to provide greater insights into the process of film production.
The trainer emphasised the importance of managing pre-production following preparing the film story and script and discussed how production schedules impact the budget and vice versa. He noted that every component of the production process is crucial and works in tandem with other other elements.
The workshop delved into the need for setting realistic budgets and highlighted the importance of accounting of contracts of all actors and work teams, wardrobe, locations, and permits before filming starts to ensure efficiency as well as to have control over the shooting process.
