In the drama series “Eye Love You” (TBS), the final episode of which will be broadcast on the 26th, actor Fumi Nikaido plays the main character, who has a special ability called “telepath” that allows him to hear other people’s inner voices. In the second part of the interview, he talked regarding the behind-the-scenes stories with co-stars Taishi Nakagawa and Nogizaka46 member Mizuki Yamashita, and the highlights of the final episode.

What is your impression of Taishi Nakagawa and Mizuki Yamashita?

–Mr. Nakagawa’s business partner Hanaoka (Akihito)’s “Rock, Paper, Scissors”

has also been popular with viewers, but what are your impressions of Mr. Nakagawa as it’s been a while since you’ve co-starred with him?

“The last time I met Nakagawa-kun was for just one day, and we hardly spoke, so this time felt more like a “nice to meet you,” but Nakagawa-kun has also had a really long career. As such, he was a very stable person on set.The relationship between Yuri and Hanaoka has been very long, but even in that short scene, which is a key point in the drama, it felt very convincing. He acted with great care, and he really talked with me regarding a lot of things during the process of filming the scene, so I thought he was very reliable.”

In the third episode (broadcast on February 6th), Hanaoka offers two types of sandwiches to the hungry Yuri, and at Yuri’s request, they decide which one to eat by playing rock, paper, scissors. Her girlfriend, Yuri, closed her eyes so he wouldn’t read her mind and gave her a punch, but Hanaoka made a par late so she wouldn’t notice and lost. In response to Hanaoka’s kindness, there were many reactions on social media following the broadcast, such as, “You lost on purpose, right?? Hey, Hanaoka-kun!” “You’re so kind, but there’s something sad regarding it,” and “Isn’t this the best guessing horse?” After that, in episode 5 (broadcast on February 20th), Hanaoka, who was aware of the mutual feelings between Yuri and Theo, put a lid on her feelings for Yuri and pushed her love with Theo. When Yuri heard Hanaoka say, “I’ve always loved you,” she was shocked by his true feelings, which she had never known before.

–The scene where Hanaoka’s inner voice is heard for the first time caught the attention of many viewers, and I think many people cried.

“I’m sure there are many people like him who say, “I wanted to say it, but I can’t say it,” but I think that in this drama, the characters that each viewer empathizes with will be different depending on their stance. Those who express themselves will probably be able to understand Theo-san’s feelings, and those who have a hard time getting into other people’s feelings will be able to understand Yuri’s feelings… Also, those who are able to empathize with Hanaoka-san who is watching over her all the time and will be drawn to her. Even as I was reading the book, I thought that there must be some of you out there.”

――After watching Jonghyeop appear in a Japanese drama for the first time, did Nikaido-san have any desire to try all foreign-language works in the future?

“It’s difficult to write lines in a foreign language. It was difficult for VIVANT (2023), a Sunday movie that was filmed in Mongolia on a large scale over a long period of time and became a hot topic! (lol). I only speak Mongolian a little. Compared to that, Jonghyeop, who memorized his lines from scratch in a language he didn’t know and put emotion into them, is doing a really amazing job. I’ve always felt that way. I really respect them.

However, I like creating a piece of work together in various settings, so I hope to meet all kinds of people, regardless of whether they’re from Japan or Japanese.”

――In episode 7, the friendship between Yuri and Mahiro was depicted, and in episodes 8 and 9, I thought the sense of teamwork between the two was wonderful. What was your impression of co-starring with Mr. Yamashita, and how did you spend your time in between? Please tell me how

“Mr. Yamashita was a very reassuring person. He seemed very nervous at first, but in many of the scenes between the two of them, Mahiro dominated the scene with his sense of tempo, so the interactions there were based on a relationship of trust. I thought that if I didn’t build a strong relationship with him, he would become hesitant. So, following we started working together, we read books together and talked regarding various things. He was very timid on set. Even so, he was able to involve Mahiro at his own pace and step into the play, which was reassuring, and he was also a very energetic person, so it was great to work with him on set. It was fun. I was able to find another wonderful member of the acting club, and I’m glad I met him.”

What difference did Nikaido feel from Korean culture?

–At the time of the production announcement, you mentioned “Sul, mashigosipta” (I want to drink) as a Korean word you recently learned. Please let us know if there are any new words you learned recently or your favorite words.

“The first thing I learned was ‘pegopa’ (I’m hungry), and I often say ‘pegopa’ on set.”

――There is a “Korean” approach to expressing your feelings in a different way than in Japan, but have you ever felt any cultural differences in the way you express your love?

“One shocking story I heard from a Korean staff member was that the number of messages exchanged on a cell phone can amount to hundreds in a day, and if you leave your cell phone alone for a while, the number of messages you receive is staggering. I was surprised when I heard that I had received a notification.

–Is that the real way in Korea?

“Jonghyeop said that’s not the case, so I think it varies from person to person, but I got the overwhelming impression that there is a passion similar to the strength of the continent in love.

Now that I think regarding it, there is one thing that made me happy! I prepared chocolates for the staff on Valentine’s Day, and I also gave chocolates to Jonghyeop’s manager. I had previously heard that you liked matcha, and I had bought chocolates of various flavors, so when I gave you matcha-flavored chocolate, I was like, “Wow!” How do you know that I like matcha? ? ” I had a reaction like that…. When I told him that I had told him before, he said, “Did you remember that? It’s better to eat this kind of food right in front of you! I opened it on the spot and said, “I’ve never had such delicious chocolate!” ” he said. That made me very happy.”

Personally, are you a Theo fan? Or Hanaoka faction?

――Are you personally a Teo fan? Or are you a Hanaoka school? Or maybe a dark horse like Onoda-san or Kame-san?

“That’s a good question (lol). When I said it in there, it was totally Makoto-san! I thought it would be nice if she would watch over me gently and quietly. Of course, Yuri can hear the voices in my heart, so He communicates in that way, but I really feel that there is more to communication than just words, and there are a lot of things that really surprise me regarding Shiraku’s acting. I often shot with Raku-san together, and even though he didn’t move his face, expressions, or body, the emotion in his words was amazing, probably because he is a storyteller. When I heard Makoto call me “Yuri” for the first time, I felt Makoto’s kindness and felt a warm feeling, and I’m sure Yuri has felt this kind of kindness for a long time, so I felt a deep sense of kindness towards people and the people around me. I think he was able to value his desire to be kind to others. That’s why Makoto seems to have such a foresight and is so cool.I’m a little confused as to which side I should answer. But I ended up saying the character with the least sense! I’m sorry (lol).”

–Please tell us regarding any Korean food that you found delicious or if you encountered any new flavors in the field.

“There is a Korean dish that has made it into my top 10 favorite foods, and it’s “Nori-ten” called “Kimbugak”.Jonghyeop suddenly asked me, “Do you know Nori-ten?” I looked it up and asked, “Is this it?” and they said, “I think that’s what it is.” (laughs) Then, when we were regarding to do the last shoot at the end of the year, we went to Korea for a little while. Since I was going home, I told him, “I’d like some Korean seaweed,” and he bought me Nori-ten as a souvenir along with Korean seaweed. It was really delicious, and I said, “I can’t stop eating this.” I want everyone to try it too (lol).”

–Finally, please share the highlights and message from the final episode.

“I feel really lucky to have been able to participate in this drama and continue to work in the entertainment industry as an actor.Every single cut was made with great care and attention.Staff and cast It’s a work that everyone at the company has created with great care, so seeing it become a work that can be enjoyed by so many people makes me really feel that the work that we created with so much care will be communicated. From everyone’s supportive comments and impressions. It looks like we’ll be able to reach the final episode safely while gaining strength, so I’d be happy if you might watch the final episode filled with everyone’s thoughts. This time, while I’m taking on many new challenges while producing this drama, I was able to take part in the drama, so I hope you can feel hope in the drama.” (End)
