The original Final Fantasy 7 gets a full voiceover thanks to a new modification. The community project is already celebrating its release today.
Dubbed the Echo-S 7, it’s available for download from Tsunamods’ site and adds a custom voice acting to each scene, complete with automatic text boxes “to make the scenes feel like a movie,” as the site puts it .

“We rounded up actors from all over the world to score the entire story of Final Fantasy 7. Every main, side and NPC; you name a character, he is spoken – even the tutorials,” says the official website by Tsunamods specifically.
“All NPCs are voiced by our community, so we have a wide range of accents and voices that make the game feel realistic,” the developers continue. Fresh lines of dialogue have even been added to FMV sequences and fights.
Although Final Fantasy fans, who have certainly given the characters their own vocal interpretations in their own imagination, may initially have concerns that these do not match those of the mod. However, Echo-S 7 expands the role-playing game classic from 1997 with an exciting element that quite a few players have certainly been dreaming of for years.
More mods for Final Fantasy 8, 9 and Crisis Core in the works
In addition to the aforementioned Echo-S 7 mod for Final Fantasy 7, Tsunamods has other ambitious projects up its sleeve. For example, another modification called Echoes of the Planet is said to be in the works, which will add dynamic music to the game in addition to the text boxes.
