Japan’s Fukushima contaminated water inspection team is holding a technical meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the 22nd, attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Tokyo Electric Power. On the first day of their visit to Japan, the Fukushima Contaminated Water Inspection Team presented facilities that needed inspection to the Japanese side and requested raw data such as concentration analysis before and following ALPS. The inspection team will visit the Fukushima nuclear power plant on the 23rd and start a full-scale inspection.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission disclosed the activities of the inspection team on the 22nd through the ‘Fukushima Contaminated Water Inspection Group Daily Briefing’.

On this day, the inspection team held a technical meeting with the Japanese side from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm. On the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Tokyo Electric Power Co. attended.

The inspection team “suggested items that needed to be inspected for each facility and device that needed to be inspected,” and “requested data that needed to be prepared in advance, such as equipment inspection records and raw data for concentration analysis before and following ALPS treatment.” he explained.

The inspection team will visit the Fukushima nuclear power plant on the 23rd and conduct an on-site inspection. It is planned to check important facilities and systems such as the adsorption tower of the multi-nuclide removal system (ALPS), and the alarm window configuration and control panel of the operation control room related to the marine discharge facility.

In addition, in the measurement confirmation facility (K4 tank group), circulation devices such as pumps are checked. Emergency shut-off valves and radiation monitors related to transportation facilities will also be inspected.

The inspection team consisted of a total of 21 people, including Director Kook-Hee Yoo, 19 nuclear power plant and radiation experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), and one marine environment radiation expert from the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST).

After inspecting the facilities on the 23rd and 24th, the inspection team will hold a technical meeting with Japan on the 25th to request additional data before returning to Korea.
