Fuel prices have just fallen once more for the first week of August, announces the Ministry of Ecological Transition. A downward movement started in the week of Monday July 18, 2022.
Fuel prices continued to fall at the beginning of August in France. A new fall which is part of a bearish context since the beginning of July 2022.
A downward movement
On average, the liter of Super SP95 – E10 is displayed at 1.7941 euro, a drop of 1.4 cents. The liter of diesel is displayed on average at 1.8393 euro, down 3.9 cents in the week of August 5. Rates that take into account the exceptional discount of 18 cents from the government. This public fuel subsidy is part of the downward movement of recent weeks.
At the beginning of July, prices at the pump had exceeded the two euro mark, diesel and petrol combined. Fuel prices have been on a generally upward trend since the start of the post-Covid-19 economic recovery that began in May 2020. A further significant increase was also seen following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The decline that began several weeks ago is largely explained by the fall in Brent oil.
End of the pump discount in 2023
In the coming weeks, the decline might continue or stabilize according to industry experts. However, the market being very volatile, “the slightest external event can cause prices to start rising once more”, analyzes a source from the middle to the Parisian. In France, the discount of 18 cents will drop to 30 cents in September and October before decreasing to 10 cents in November and December. A gradual end to aid which might be felt at the pump as early as January 2023.
