Fuel shortage: Water facilities in Gaza out of order, according to UN

“Only one desalination plant is operating at just five percent capacity, while all six water treatment plants in the Gaza Strip are currently out of operation due to lack of fuel or electricity,” UNICEF director Catherine Russell told an emergency UN meeting on Monday -Security Council.

Russell added that she implores the Security Council to immediately adopt a resolution reminding the parties of their obligations under international law. This also includes a ceasefire and unhindered access for humanitarian aid. So far, all attempts by the most powerful UN body to pass a resolution with a humanitarian focus have failed. The most promising initiative failed due to a US veto.
