Fuel shortage: dry service stations in Occitania and restrictions in the Gard

Consequence of the mobilization once morest the pension reform: the service stations of the region close one following the other for lack of fuel. Update on the situation this Monday, March 20.

According Fig Data, in the Gard, 26.2% of service stations were in difficulty on Monday, 9.2% in partial rupture and 16.9% in total rupture. The Carrefour contact service station in Bouillargues is one of the last around Nîmes to still offer fuel. Since Monday morning, an uninterrupted stream of vehicles has been queuing. The municipal police were called in.

“Last night, we were delivered. We received 18,000 liters of diesel, 9,000 liters of E10 and 5,000 liters of 95, explain Bruno and Jennifer Prestia, the managers. In a few hours, this Monday, we sold the quantity that we spend in a day. By the end of the day, we will probably have nothing left.”

The Gard decrees restrictions

To deal with this beginning of shortage, the prefecture of Gard issued an order to regulate the distribution, until Thursday midnight, at least. Light vehicles (less than 3.5 t) are limited to 30 litres; goods transport vehicles between 3.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes to 120 litres; goods transport vehicles over 12 tonnes to 200 litres. It is also forbidden to fill jerry cans. Priority profession vehicles will be refueled first.

In the Hérault also, the situation is becoming tense: on Monday, 5.1% of service stations in the Hérault are in difficulty (out of stock this Monday at 1 p.m. on all fuels or in partial stockout at 1 p.m. on gasoline or diesel), 3.2% are in partial rupture and 1.9% in total rupture.

In the Pyrenees-Orientales10% of the stations were in difficulty, 7.1% in total failure and 2.9% in partial failure.

In the Aude4.8% of service stations were experiencing difficulties: 1.2% in partial rupture and 3.6% in total rupture.

In Aveyron, 2.2% of service stations were partially out of fuel. In Lozèrea few stations also began to run out of fuel on Monday, March 20.

On a national level5.4% of service stations in the country did not have, Monday evening, either gasoline (SP 98, SP95, E10), or diesel.

Slightly higher prices

On the price side, the refinery blocking movement caused a slight jump on Monday, March 20. Gasoline thus rose by two cents this week, with a liter of SP98 stabilizing slightly below two euros, at €1.99. It is however ten cents more than at the beginning of the year, under the effect of the end of the rebates granted by the government and by TotalÉnergies. Diesel, too, was more expensive this week but still below its level of January 2023. It cost an average of €1.85 per liter on Friday.
