Fuel price | Petrol and diesel prices still high; Here are the new rates

State-owned oil companies have raised fuel prices for the fifth time in the last six days. It also hiked petrol and diesel prices by 50 paise and 55 paise respectively. The latest daily revision in fuel prices has increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3.70-3.75 per liter in a week.

In Delhi, petrol is currently priced at Rs 99.11 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.87 per liter, up from Rs 90.42 per liter, according to fuel retailers.

Petrol and diesel rates vary from state to state depending on the level of local taxation. In Mumbai, petrol was priced at Rs 113.88 per liter and diesel at Rs 98.13 per liter.

With the revision, petrol price in Chennai has gone up to Rs 104.90 per liter and diesel to Rs 95.00 per liter. In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 108.53 per liter and diesel Rs 93.57 per liter.

Four times in the past, fuel prices have been hiked by 80 paise per liter. This is the sharpest single-day increase since the daily price revision began in June 2017.

In five states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur – prices remained unchanged for more than four and a half months during the election campaign and polling.

During the same period, the price of crude oil increased by regarding $ 30 per barrel.

The Congress and other opposition parties have criticized the government for raising prices, saying it has increased the burden on ordinary people who are caught up in inflation.

The Congress has accused the BJP government of profiting by continuously raising petrol and diesel prices. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told a news conference that the Modi government had earned Rs 26 lakh crore in eight years by raising excise duty on petrol and diesel.

“The people of India have been deceived and defeated by the government,” Surjewala alleged.

India is 85 per cent dependent on imports to meet its oil needs. So retail sales rates are adjusted according to global changes.
