A situation which immediately made the victims react on social networks where many testimonies have been pouring in since the beginning of the week. The service station company is still reassuring, saying that all victims will be compensated.
”After refueling my car, I quickly noticed that it was hard to start and was losing power. I told myself that it was not normal”, indicates a resident of Dour on the citizen group “Ca s’passe à Dour”. “My car is only two months old but has already been acting up since I filled it up,” laments another resident. “The engine light came on directly following refueling,” adds another motorist in a series of testimonies, as numerous as the number of victims.
After this misadventure, many of them had to go to the garage to have the tank completely emptied. Worse, others have seen their car give up the ghost, thus preventing them from reacting in time. A situation of which the company is well aware, which invites citizens to contact them.
Seventy complaints
“On Monday, several customers reported experiencing problems with their vehicle following refueling at the Dats24 station in Dour. An investigation was immediately opened and the pumps concerned were closed. We confirm, following investigation by an independent analysis body, that diesel has indeed been poured into the tank intended for Euro 95 petrol and vice versa. In the meantime, 70 customers have reported damage and are being contacted by our customer service. A file is being opened with the insurance company for each of them,” says Hanne Poppe, press officer for Dats24.
The tanks were emptied. Subsequently, these, as well as all the pipes from the tanks to the guns, will be cleaned. Only following this thorough cleaning will the tanks be refilled and normal refueling resume. “We expect the pumps to be available once more this Friday during the day,” adds Hanne Poppe.
Victims compensated
Some aggrieved customers have already been able to obtain a response from Dats24 which would imply that only the full tank would be reimbursed by the firm but not the cost of repairing their car. An assertion that Dats24 denies. “We take care of refueling reimbursement immediately, without the intervention of the insurance company. We are currently in the process of collecting all necessary data from the affected customers for this purpose. For any other legitimate complaint (such as a broken down vehicle due to a fuel error), a claim file will be opened with the insurance company, and will be settled by the insurance company followingwards. . Our customers will therefore of course not be left behind,” concludes Hanne Poppe.
