Fuel Crisis in Gaza: Hospitals on the Brink of Collapse

The United Nations said that hospitals in the Gaza corridor now have very low fuel stocks and only open emergency rooms, while all other departments are closed.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that hospitals need to retain scarce fuel to maintain life-support equipment, including respirators, newborn incubators and kidney dialysis machines.

Israel has blocked new fuel from entering Gaza, believing it might be stolen or used for military purposes by militant group Hamas. Israel also accuses Hamas of stockpiling tens of thousands of metric tons of diesel and being unwilling to share it.

On the other hand, EU leaders are expected to jointly call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to allow important supplies to enter the Gaza corridor. European Council President Charles Michel said the deteriorating situation in Gaza is a cause for serious concern, and EU leaders are urgently pushing to allow water, food, medical resources, fuel and shelter tents to enter Gaza.
