FTC-Újpest: Barnabás Varga returned, the rally was decided in the “marathon” overtime

There were nearly 19,000 fans in the stadium.

After the BL farewell (Danish Midtjylland won the match), Ferencváros had a rally against Újpest in NB I on Saturday. Barnabás Varga, who was seriously injured 55 days ago in the European Championship match against the Scots, started for the home team. It is known that due to an unfortunate collision, Varga broke his cheekbone in several places, so he had to be operated on. By the way, the green and whites could wait for the Derby full of self-confidence, since since February 2018 they have finished all their matches against the Újpest with success.

At the beginning of the match, there were small fireworks in front of the goal of the purple and whites: first Piscitelli performed a feat on Gruber’s header, then Ben Romdhan put the rebound on him, but the ball hit the crossbar.

Gruber worked hard in the continuation, but neither he nor any other player managed to score, so the score was 0-0 at the break.

At the beginning of the second half, the Groupama Aréna was engulfed in smoke due to various pyrotechnic devices, so the game was stopped for a few minutes. After the forced rest, Ferencváros made three substitutions in the middle of the game. Not long after, Nunes’ hand was touched by the ball inside the penalty area, Gergő Bogár looked back on the scene, who did not give the home team a penalty.

Based on the referee’s decision, the rally ended with ten minutes of overtime. In the 92nd minute, FTC fans were able to celebrate, as Kehinde bombed into the upper left corner from a slightly forced position. Later it turned out that this move decided the fate of the three points, Fradi won the Derby 1-0.

In the 101st minute, a serious brawl broke out at the Ferencváros bench, first Nunes and Abu Fani got into a fight, and then came the bigger tumult. Nunes received a yellow and Abu Fani a red for the incident. The match was finally finished in the 103rd minute.
