An error in the strategy stopped his progress in the Formula 2After several weekends in which he dominated the scene, in Hungary he suffered a setback that filled him with helplessness. Frank Colapinto With the MP Motorsport team, they did not make the best race decisions and the Argentine driver finished in 13th place, did not score any points, and suffered from tire wear.

The ninth round of the calendar, held at the Hungaroring circuit, which ended with the victory of the Italian Kimi Andrea Antonelli, began to get complicated for Colapinto when he started from 12th place, he managed to get into eighth position, but a collision between Paul Aron and Zane Maloney caused the first intervention of the Safety Car (AS), causing both drivers to go off the track. “It went badly today, it doesn’t matter how it went,” said Colapinto after the race.

During the neutralisation, several drivers, including the Argentinean, took advantage of the opportunity to enter the pits and change their tyres. Colapinto re-entered the track in 15th position, from where he tried to recover at a steady pace. By the time the Safety Car had to intervene again due to Amaury Cordeel’s mistake, Colapinto had already moved up to sixth position.

The race, which was completed in regulation time, was restarted with Colapinto trying to maintain his new position in the pack. However, the team strategy began to become weak due to tyre wear, which made him lose several positions towards the end of the race: “It’s a shame. We missed a good opportunity. We had started well with the hard tyres and we passed the majority who were on hard tyres, but nothing… bad luck. It went wrong today. Missing opportunities is not good,” said the Argentine driver.

This weekend was not ideal for Colapinto, because he qualified in 12th place for the main race, was fifth in the Sprint Race and was ranked 13th in the Feature RaceWith these results at the Hungaroring, the Argentinean was able to add some points for the championship: he remains in fifth place with 96 points and is ahead of Zane Maloney (101), Gabriel Bortoleto (110), Paul Aron (122) and Isack Hadjar (140).

Colapinto’s next chance to score more points will be at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, in the tenth race of the calendar, scheduled between 26 and 28 July. Despite the unfavourable result at the Hungaroring, Colapinto remains firmly focused on fighting for the Formula 2 championship.
