From today you can fly to Croatia without a passport

Croatia concluded this Sunday the entry into the European Schengen area of free movement with the inclusion of Croatian airports, following having joined the land and sea borders on January 1st.

As of today, all flights from Croatia to the other 26 Schengen countries and vice versa are treated as “internal flights”, so passengers will transit without border controls for documentation.

The Croatian interior ministry said in a statement that Croatia’s nine international airports are starting to implement the new system today, noting that the average proportion of air traffic will be 70% domestic versus 30% international, except at Dubrovnik airport, where are divided into equal parts.

Croatia hopes that the simplified system will significantly increase tourists’ interest in visiting the country.

Croatian airports began in January to make the necessary changes to join the Schengen area today.

According to the Hina news agency, Zagreb airport, the largest in Croatia, invested one million euros in technical and infrastructure adaptations to the new system, and the airport in the Adriatic city of Zadar invested 2.2 million euros.
