In view of the high corona numbers, masks must be worn indoors throughout Austria from Thursday. In addition, corona infected people can go back to work and go shopping after five days without a free test – if they have been symptom-free for 48 hours and with a mask. In private life, they should avoid “vulnerable settings”, gastronomy and major events and also wear a mask. The new rules were negotiated on Wednesday.

The quarantine recommendation from Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) goes further than expected: it not only affects individual professional groups such as the health professions, but all employees in general. You can also “test yourself” after five days. If the result is negative or the CT value is over 30, the “traffic restrictions” for private life and the obligation to wear a mask do not apply.

In view of the extremely high number of infections recently, Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) has again ordered the general indoor mask requirement. Since the big easing step on March 5, it has only existed in public transport and basic service shops. Only Vienna remained with the FFP2 obligation and 2G for gastronomy and night gastronomy.

In the other federal states there is now a special regulation for night gastronomy and events from 100 people without a fixed seat: Their operators can choose whether they require a mask or 3G proof. Neither a mask nor 3G is necessary for indoor gatherings of less than 100 people, in private living areas, at the administration point in the catering trade or for rehearsals and artistic performances in a fixed composition. The new rules apply at least until April 16th.
