US actor Brendan Fraser
From the “Sexiest Man Alive” to the 300-kilo colossus in the latest film
The series “The Mummy” and slapstick strips like “George of the Jungle” made Brendan Fraser a star. However, strokes of fate drove the US actor to private and professional ruin. Thanks to independent master director Darren Aronofsky, a comeback beckons.
A big thing! At the time of “The Mummy”, Brendan Fraser (53) was considered the “sexiest man alive” around the turn of the millennium and was a busy comedy specialist. But in recent years, the US star has disappeared from the scene, struggled with depression and was financially drained.
Now the actor is making a weighty comeback – and is barely recognizable in the first photo of his new film. The six-pack, one-time Hollywood beau now has incredible rolls of fat following having to transform into a 600-pound man for the work, aptly titled The Whale.
A comeback like Mickey Rourke?
Premiering at the Venice Festival in late August, the film is regarding a reclusive, obese teacher who tries to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter.
“It’s going to be something you’ve never seen me do before,” Fraser said of his return. US star director Darren Aronofsky (53) had already helped Mickey Rourke (69), who was also worn out at the time, to make a comeback and enter the serious business in 2008 in “The Wrestler”.
