Pictures with strong statements, a wide variety of techniques and styles were created as well as successful artistic experiments as part of the 24th painting week of the Arlberg Culture Days association. Nine participants brought their interpretations of the given topic “We’ll see…” on paper or canvas. The wide range of results was shown for the first time at the vernissage on July 22nd in the Raiffeisenbank St. Anton am Arlberg. And, it surprised…
ST. ANTON AM ARBERG (lisi). “We’ll see…”, which may sound like a casual statement, was the motto under which the director Lisa Krabichler put the annual painting week organized by the Arlberger Kulturtage association this year. Presumably knowing full well that what will emerge from it will by no means be banal. “Everyone was able to do whatever they wanted this year,” Lisa Krabichler explained immediately following welcoming the Raika host, Mario Thurner, and further explained: “Pictures were taken that I didn’t expect.” Regarding the constellation of the group, the director mentioned with a smile: “Down-to-earth, conservative people met high-flyers or totally alternative people in this group.” One of the participants was once once more Anja Krismer: “This year she dared the almost impossible and painted abstract watercolors,” said Lisa in her laudatory speech Krabichler, who was also amazed when she saw the work of Annemarie Senn: “She is a phenomenon, she does many things at the same time and can do everything.” This year she was mainly concerned with water, and she also painted butterflies in watercolours.
“Breathtaking new paths”…
…that’s Annelies Jörg this year. Preferred subjects were anything that flies, including a dove of peace. Participant Ingrid Raggl “painted coherent pictures that created something new when they were revised,” explained Lisa Krabichler. Raggl also chose an implementation that was atypical for her and brought round shapes into abstract concepts. Magdalena Raggl, at the tender age of twelve, was part of the party once more this year – she took the subject literally and painted animal eyes, “meticulously” as the director of the painting week praised and: “She also shows an animal in its entirety, a clown fish.” Hermann Mussak took up a topical theme in his works: He brought polluted seas to canvas as well as dead coral reefs. Atypically for him there was also the series with “Squeaky Ducks”. Lisa Krabichler praised Christian Spiß for his very broad spectrum. He shows collages, drawings, carvings and prints. Sabine Kertess painted in a sketchy and diary-like manner – she also “opened her inner archive” in her works, praised Krabichler – Krabichler praised the works of Isolde Mall-Mairhofer as just as “brilliant”, who also drew attention to climate change, for example a picture showing a flooded house. Words of praise and thanks came from St. Anton’s cultural advisor Tanja Senn, as well as from Peppi Spiss, the President of the Arlberg Culture Days association.
