After she grabbed the hearts of the Lebanese for weeks, and gifted them with winning first place in the “America’s Gate Talent” program, she directed Mias band A sharp criticism of the politicians in the country, which is mired in its worst economic and living crises in decades.
Nadim Cherfan, the band’s founder and choreographer, denounced the political class, calling, from the moment he arrived in Beirut on Friday, for a “revolution” in Lebanon.
On the heads of politicians
Cherfan said upon his arrival at Beirut airport yesterday, “We do not need you, we were able to raise the name of Lebanon without you,” according to what Agence France-Presse reported on Saturday.
He also stressed that citizens must be liberated, “destroy all banks and turn the country upside down and the tables are on the heads of all politicians.”
In addition, he added, addressing politicians, “Your duty is to feed the hungry people and provide electricity.”
It is noteworthy that dozens of the dancers’ relatives in the troupe welcomed them yesterday with flowers at Beirut airport, following thousands of Lebanese were stuck in front of television screens to follow the arrival of the troupe, which was a source of pride for them at a time when their country was ravaged by an unprecedented economic and political crisis.
The victory of this group represented a rare moment of unity in Lebanon, which is experiencing its worst crises since its founding.
Mayas won $1 million in prize money following winning first place in the America’s Got Talent Finals, as well as the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas.
