On Sunday 18 September, the route proposed by the Allons enfants association led some 90 visitors to the sites of a dozen spinning mills or hosiery factories in Sumène intra muros.
Alongside the buildings of the old spinning mills, Hubert Bresson also showed active factories such as Serge Masal’s company, l’arsoie, one of the last companies in the world to still weave silk for fashion houses.
Visitors were also able to linger in the buildings listed as historical monuments of the former spinning mill of the Tarteron family presented by Charles de Clercq. They were also able to explore the former Bonnerue spinning mill, the current home of guide Hubert Bresson, a descendant of the former owners.
This tour of the spinning mills ended in the Ferrier room, also a former spinning mill, where a projection on the life of the spinners of yesteryear and a few photographs made it possible to prolong the exchanges over a glass of friendship.
