Mamita Baiju and Nazlin starrer Premalu is taking the theaters by storm. All the stars have given brilliant performances in the film which is jumping from hit to hit. Akhila Bhargavan, who became Mamita’s friend in the film, is an actor who won the audience’s love through Premalu. Premalu is the third film of Akhila who made her acting debut with the hit short film Anurag Engineering Works. Akhila Reels, a microbiologist, gained attention through her videos. In an interview with Manorama Online, Akhila shared details regarding Premalu’s resounding success.

I loved acting and that’s why I used to do reels and videos, but I never expected to get into films. My first role was Anurag Engineering Worksl, a short film directed by Premalu’s co-writer Kiran Josi. Later he acted in the films Poovan and Neighbor Vasi. Premalu is my third film.
Viral Reels
Back when apps like Dubsmash and Musically were popular, I used to make videos on them. A video was made imitating Arya from the show Badai Bungalow. It was viral. So I got invited as a guest to the program Badai Bungalow. I participated in one episode. That was the first visual media experience. After that some offers came for the film. But it was decided to see following completing the studies. Studied microbiology. After completing his studies, he started working. The wedding is over. After getting married, my husband and I started an Instagram page called AR Reels. He used to act out scenes in movies and make reels. It started as a joke. After seeing all that, Anurag was invited to a short film called Engineering Works. That’s how he got into the acting field.
Anurag started the engineering works
Girish AD was the producer of the short film Anurag Engineering Works. He was also the co-producer of Poovan. Girishhetan has also acted in Poovan. So I know him. One day Girishetan called me and asked if I might come for an audition as he was making a film like this. Kiran Ettan and Girishetan were there when I went. Some scenes of Karthika in Premalu were done. After a few days, he called me and said that it is okay to join the film. Although I am familiar with Girishetan, I don’t know what kind of director he is. There was a fear. But when I went to the set, I realized that all that fear was in vain.
A lover of fellowship
Naslin has come for a day’s shoot in the movie Poovan. Then there is familiarity. I don’t know anyone else in Premalu movie. My combination was more with Mamata Baiju. Although Mamitha is younger than me in age, he has entered the cinema a long time ago and has good experience. I was afraid of how they would accept me as a new person. Mamita sees me as a close friend. She is very bold and the way she handles many things is worth emulating.
There was a lot to learn from seeing Mamita. There was a workshop for a few days before the shooting. At that time we got to know each other and rehearsed some scenes. A few scenes were shot in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. By then we became friends. We got really close when we reached Hyderabad. Mamata and Meenakshi were living together. After the shooting, Naslan, Shyam Ettan and Sangeet Ettan will meet together. Then we spend time cooking food and sharing stories. And there was no problem. We were there like a family.
Preparation to become Karthika
The character Karthika is very bold and says what he has to say looking anyone in the face. My nature is the opposite. I am the reserved type. In the two films I did earlier, the characters were of country girls. Karthika is a bit of a modern kid. I was very thin. Girishetan said that he should put some more wood. Karthika is working in IT field. It is a field I am not familiar with. There are certain mannerisms that people working in the IT field have and I tried to understand them by observing them.
The responses are amazing
Premalu is the first full-length film and I am very happy that it is a hit. Family and friends all liked the movie. Everyone is sending messages. Many people who don’t know him look for the number and send messages on Instagram and give good comments. Very happy. Kartika is also called Karthoo. It is a pleasure to be known for the character we have played. Many people in the movie called.
RDX’s director Nahas Chetan, Adarsh Chetan, Grace Antony, Vinci and many other stars sent messages to express their congratulations. So happy to know that the movie is still running to full houses. The movie is produced by Bhavana Studio and directed by Girish AD, so there was hope regarding the movie. But this success is beyond my expectations. My brother and husband are very happy.
Chetan wanted to be an artist
My home is Payyannur in Kannur. I have father, mother and eight. Studied MSc Microbiology. After that he worked as a microbiologist. Husband Rahul. He works as an officer in the Fire and Rescue Department. It was my brother who supported me artistically at home. I have learned to dance. I like to dance. Chetan wanted me to grow artistically. I am happy that I have my husband to support me following marriage. My family and Rahul’s family are with us with all support.
Should continue in the movie
I thought that Premalu should come down and think seriously regarding the film. The responses we are getting now have boosted our confidence. If you get good characters, you should do it. I want to continue acting and hope that good roles will come to me that the audience likes.
