According to a decree published this Thursday, July 13 in the Official Journal, parental control will be activated by default on devices providing internet access from July 2024. It will apply to smartphones and computers as well as televisions or game consoles. The main objective of the law is to protect minors once morest pornographic content disseminated on the Internet. The interest is also to facilitate the use of parental control tools.
This provision comes from a bill by MP Bruno Studer (Renaissance), supported by the government and adopted in March 2022.
Manufacturers will have to install a parental control device on all this equipment offered for sale on the French market, according to l’ANFR, the frequency regulation agency. It is she who will be responsible for checking the compliance of the terminals. “The activation of this device must be offered free of charge to the user when the equipment is first put into service”, specifies the agency.

The ANFR “may take samples of equipment from places of sale”. And in the event of non-compliance, “adopt a number of measures once morest manufacturers and distributors”.
The agency will make a state of the market which it will publish “by the end of the year”.
