From January to August, 54 girls were victims of feminicide in Mexico

MEXICO CITY.- From January to August 2024, there were victim of femicide 54 girls and adolescents between 0 and 17 yearswhich represented an increase compared to the 46 femicides of adolescent girls and women that were recorded in the same months of 2023, according to official data processed by the Network for Children’s Rights in Mexico (my refusal).

Regarding the International Day of the Girlwhich is commemorated this Friday, the civil organization led by Tania Ramírez, released the figures of the biggest problems that afflict girls in the national territory.

In Mexico, there are 18.9 million girls and adolescents between 0 and 17 years of age, of which 8.4 million face extreme poverty.

According to Redim, in Mexico 339 women between 0 and 17 years old died from homicide from January to August 2024, of which 74 died from intentional homicide.

Last year, were treated in hospitals from Mexico 18 thousand 93 women from 1 to 17 years old for family violence. This corresponded to 87.9% of victims of family violence in that age range nationwide.

In 2023, 9,045 women between the ages of 1 and 17 were also treated in hospitals in Mexico for sexual violence. This corresponded to 92.3% of victims of sexual violence in that age range nationwide.

It stands out that in 2022, 10.8% of women between 3 and 17 years of age in Mexico were educationally backward in 2022, which corresponded to 1.7 million adolescent girls and women. At the national level, the percentage of women aged 3 to 17 with educational lag during 2022 was 1.6 points lower than that of men of the same age (12.4%).

The Network’s figures also specify that during 2023, 101,147 births to mothers between 10 and 17 years old were registered in Mexico. This corresponded to 1.1 per 100 women in that age range.
