From Hüttschlag to Bürmoos: which strongholds the parties have to defend

Where are the campaigning parties traditionally strong, where do they have weaknesses? In the search for black, red, blue, green and pink strongholds, political scientist Armin Mühlböck from the University of Salzburg distinguishes three dimensions: the proportion of votes in the area under consideration, the absolute number of votes cast there (in relation to the overall result) and whether it compares to the previous one election in the respective territory has resulted in a gain or loss of votes. “It’s a bit different depending on which glasses you put on,” says Mühlböck. …
