From Giacomo Leopardi to Bessie Smith: the inaugural event of the Journalism Festival

Waiting for the twelfth edition of the Cultural Journalism Festivalwhich will be held in Urbino on 4, 5 and 6 October 2024, Sunday 8 September in Pesaro, the inaugural event of the Festival OFF.

In the splendid setting of the courtyard of Palazzo Montani Antaldi, an eighteenth-century noble residence, located in the historic center of Pesaro and home to the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro, for a special evening dedicated to reading and the performing arts.

At 6:00 pm, the actresses Paola Galassi e Romina Antonelli will stage a tragicomic performance with the reading Memories as Dust. From Giacomo Leopardi to Bessie Smith, under the artistic direction of Giampiero Solariin collaboration with PAC – Performing Arts Center Pesaro.

The actresses will give new voice and memory to a song that the poet Giacomo Leopardi wrote in 1819, inspired by a local crime and judicial news story: the death of the young Pesaro native Virginia Del Mazzo and the culture of silence that the press of the time imposed on the affair.

The show intertwines the story of Virginia Del Mazzo and the words of Leopardi with the timeless voice of Bessie Smith, the empress of the blues, in an interpretation that combines news and poetry, exploring themes such as pain, redemption, denunciation and much more.

The event will be opened by Marco Cangiottipresident of the Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro Foundation. He will also speak Piero Dorflespresident of the Cultural Journalism Festival.
