From the first of July, all Belgian businesses will have to offer the possibility of electronic payment to their customers. This is what the government decided regarding a year ago.
From Friday, therefore, this new law will come into force in Belgium. A change that risks destabilizing those who still use cash a lot, since cash only boxes will soon no longer be accessible!
But obviously cash payments will therefore remain possible, but customers will also have to be able to pay electronically. We are not just talking regarding Bancontact. The merchant can choose his electronic payment system. There will therefore be no obligation to install a payment terminal, since applications like Payconiq (either with your phone) will also be authorized.
It is not known how many businesses still do not accept electronic payments. With this measure, the minister wants above all to reduce fraud in certain sectors.
In the event of non-compliance with this new law, businesses are liable to fines of up to 10,000 euros.
