BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – After a challenging transition from the football field to the music stage, Xavier Jackson, a former Texas A&M Football player, discovered a new purpose in life through his passion for music, which served as a lifeline during a difficult period of self-discovery. According to Jackson, his journey also led him to find faith in Christ, further enriching his dedication to songwriting and performance.
“The shift from football to music was quite fascinating,” reflected Jackson. “Going from being one of the most recognized figures in the community to playing piano—people are left wondering, ‘Wait a minute, you were into football, and now you’re playing music? What’s happening here?’ It’s a unique transformation, but it suits me wonderfully.”
Jackson also shared with KBTX that music was always a part of his identity, even while he was immersed in the world of collegiate football.
“During my time at A&M, my teammates would frequently come over to hang out, and I’d often jump on the keyboard. We’d spontaneously create tunes and sometimes engage in freestyle rap sessions. It was hilarious to hear some of those guys trying to rap along with my piano playing,” he chuckled, reminiscing about those joyful times.
Unfortunately, Jackson’s football career was cut short after just one year when doctors advised him to medically retire because of severe sickle cell complications.
“That news shattered my world because football had been a cornerstone of my existence. After that, I had no choice but to lean on music. It truly saved me. Following the end of my football journey, I fell into a deep mental struggle. Without the game, music became my lifeline,” Jackson candidly shared, reflecting on his emotional recovery.
Today, Jackson is excited to announce that he will be hosting a new Jukebox Piano Bar at The Angry Elephant in College Station, bringing his musical talents to a wider audience.
“As the name suggests, it’s a piano bar with a jukebox twist. When you arrive, look for the large red folder and choose any song from the list; just jot it down like a traditional jukebox, but I’ll be the one performing it live. We have a repertoire of 300 songs, so whatever you want to hear, we’ve likely got it,” he explained enthusiastically.
The Jukebox Piano Bar will take place every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., providing a unique musical experience for all attendees.
