BARBARA PRAVI. Singer Barbara Pravi, who narrowly missed first place at Eurovision 2021, is named in the Female Revelation of the Year category at the Victoires de la Musique. Portrait.
Will she be the Female Revelation of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique 2022? For Barbara Pravi, all hopes are allowed. Born Barbara Piévic on April 10, 1993 in Paris, Barbara Pravi was spotted in 2016, in the show A summer 44. A year earlier, the young woman, who had signed with the Capitol label, chained the concerts in the first part of Florent Pagny. In 2018, Barbara Pravi released her first album, which bears her name. At the same time, the young woman wrote for other artists, from Julie Zenatti to Yannick Noah.
Selected to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest, Barbara Pravi narrowly missed victory, finishing in second place, behind Italy. However, the singer and the title Here is had enough to make the French optimistic since it was she who had co-written the last two titles defended by France at Eurovision Junior: the song J’imagine by young Valentina, winner of the Eurovision Junior contest last November, as well as the hit Goodbye to me by Carla Lazzari, who had clinched fifth place the previous year.
Parallel to Eurovision, Barbara Pravi continued her momentum. On March 8, 2021, she released an EP, called Les Prières and composed of six pieces, followed by a second in September of the same year, Prayers – roots, on which we find several artists like Silly Boy Blue (also named in the category Female revelation of the year at the Victoires de la musique 2022), Lubiana or November Ultra. In 2021, Barbara Pravi unveils her first album, called We don’t lock up the birds.
France disappointed, but France second. On Saturday May 22 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, French singer Barbara Pravi finished in second place in the Eurovision 2021 ranking, giving way to Italy and the group Måneskin. A victory and a controversy for the singer of the Italian rock band, who was accused of taking drugs during the show. Information denied following a test, which turned out to be negative.
“If he had tested positive, I would never have accepted the loss of the first false first place. They were chosen by the public, they were excellent. It’s too good and long live rock”, confides Barbara Pravi to RTL, explaining having had “the most intense experience of my life at all levels.” And to add: “I am delighted with my second place, I think it’s very strong and very beautiful and on top of that, I feel like I have all the advantages without the disadvantages.”
“Listen to me, me the half-singer. Talk regarding me, to your loves, to your friends. Talk to them regarding this black-eyed girl and her crazy dream. What I want is to write stories that come to you”, sings the young artist in the song Here is, which is in line with the greatest titles of French song. “That’s all I listen to, classic French song. AznavourBrel, Barbara … and these are so much my references and my influences that for me it is a grace to be able to represent France with a song like this”, underlined the artist to BFMTV before the competition.
And if we compare her to Edith Piaf, Barbara Pravi might not be annoyed. “I understand it, the comparison. I’m very small, we have something in common in the haircut, and I think it has to do with the fact that I am quite thin, quite frail, and that I have a voice which carries a lot”, she explained to the television news continuously. There is no question of questioning herself, Barbara Pravi remains natural. “I don’t realize it, because I don’t do anything in conscience. I don’t pay attention to how I dress, my motto is almost McDonald’s: ‘Come as you are'”, confided the young woman to Linternaute.com.
Between Iran and Serbia, Barbara Pravi claims her origins and is proud of it. His two parents are French, his paternal grandfather is of Serbian origin, his maternal grandfather, from Iran. Piévic (the real family name of Barbara Pravi) in Serbian, means authentic, in the masculine. A name that suits her perfectly and a cultural heritage that she claims. “Eurovision is very important to me because I have multiple origins. Eurovision is the crossroads of world music. It’s all these countries that come together for an evening, where everyone comes defend her culture, her voice, her heritage”, confided the young woman in a press release published following her appointment to the competition.
“She picks up the arrow left by Edith Piaf or Barbara and sends it even further.” It is with these terms that André Manoukian evoked Barbara Pravi, the tricolor flag bearer at Eurovision 2021. The jury of the show had wet eyes at the end of the performance of the young singer, who is not at her first attempt. It is moreover she who wrote and composed this song, with which she defended France.
