I am happy to announce that the twelfth weekend of video game programming will take place! This will be held over the weekend from December 9 to 11, 2022. Mark the date in your calendar so you don’t miss the opportunity to learn, experience and create a video game.
This event, open to all, taking place on the Developpez.com chat allows participants to come together virtually and spend an intense weekend whose goal is to create a video game. Indeed, over three days, the participants engage in a friendly experience, full of good humor, during which they will produce a video game from A Z.
It’s a perfect opportunity to start a new project, experiment, test new tools, or even discover video game programming.
For this twelfth edition, a theme and a gameplay idea will be announced at the start of the event. They are not not obligatory and it is up to the participants to do whatever they wish. These are just guidelines for those who prefer to have additional constraints.
As you have already read, the weekend selected for this twelfth edition is that stretching from December 9 to 11, 2022. Thus, the event will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 9. To communicate, share or even watch the progress of others, a room will be specially open on the chat. It is from this moment that the participants will begin their video game project. Keep in mind that the weekend ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022. It’s short, but at the same time, it’s grueling. Be ready!
It’s a stress-free weekend. You realize the project you want with the tools you want. You can therefore take the programming language you want, make your game using a video game engine or by programming it from A Z.
However, be aware that even using a video game engine, making a game in a weekend remains intense. Prepare a minimum!
Let’s be even clearer: in a weekend, a normal person will create for 4 hours on Friday evening, 8 hours on Saturday and 8 hours on Sunday. That’s 20 hours in total, which means the game should be small, simple and just fun to do ;-). Don’t try to do anything too complicated, it’s probably more interesting to make a minigame that works fine at the end rather than a great MMORPG that just has a menu screen with nothing behind it ;-).
Also, remember that it’s not just programming. You will certainly need sprites, sounds. You can find it on the topic media page.
No hour limit or minimum. You come whenever you want on the chat to share your code, your images, your advice or questions.
I will be, as often as possible, on the Developpez.com chat during the weekend in order to help those who need it :-).
The goal for this weekend: none. Let’s have fun and change our minds!
Who will verify that you are not cheating? Nobody, it’s not a contest. You can work on a project with several people, you can be alone, you can come to the chat to find someone to work with.
So we will start on Friday, December 9 at 6 p.m. and we will stop on Sunday at midnight!
You can find the achievements of past years.
Note also that this is an opportunity for dbutants to have different developers by their side in order to be guided in the realization of a game. So take advantage of this event to launch yourself into your dream, or simply, to discover how it happens.
You can present your project, talk regarding its realization, give news of your project in the Projects sub-forum. To make it easier for the members and for me to locate the projects carried out during this event, please prefix the name of the discussion by [WE-JV12]. As you may have noticed, I produce reports for present your projects. For visitors, I advise you to watch the forum in order to have news and playable versions. Indeed, during development, we cannot always answer you or prepare a playable version in action. However, all participants will be happy to answer your questions regarding their games and receive your comments.
To summarize
