On one occasion Rogert Uribina fulfilled an unimaginable dream, cooking for a star. That figure was the Colombian singer J Balvin. It all happened when Rogert worked in a restaurant in Medellín. But his luck changed overnight as he ended up on the streets of the city.
“For us it was very exciting that they said that J Balvin was on the ground floor. I ran downstairs, changed my uniform, introduced myself, told him that I was the one who had prepared the food for him the day before and that day in the morning, and I asked him for the popular photo,” Rogert Uribina told in an interview with the journalist Hernán Muñoz from CM&.
Meeting J Balvin was a moment of glory for Rogert, a Venezuelan citizen who, like many of his compatriots, came to Colombia in search of opportunities.
However, Due to depression, Rogert Uribina fell into addiction, which led him to the streets of the bronx
in Medellin.
“At the beginning I only consumed the bareta, the cripa (marijuana). Like my emotions, consumption was falling. I came from consuming bareta and water to consuming cigarettes and bazuco ”, he told CM &.
During his fight to survive on the streets, his right leg prosthesis and crutches were stolen. But all was not lost, an angel crossed his path.
Mayra Azula was that angel, who, hand in hand with the Warrior Spirit Foundation, has given Rogert a new opportunity and hope for a better life. She managed to put him in contact with his family in Venezuela.
And as if that were not enough, Rogert’s admired singer also joined in to donate the much-needed prosthesis.
“J Balvin was that angel who joined this miracle,” said Mayra.
According to the woman, she came to Rogert because of a girl she had also helped out in the Bronx. She told him that she knew someone who needed crutches.
“I told Mrs. Mayra that I received the help, that I wanted the change, to give me just that space of the day to think things through,” said the young man.
Thanks to his desire for change, this young man has directed his life in another direction and his story moves more than one person.
