Ericsson announced, on Wednesday (24), the registration of a patent for a self-repairing technology for the antennas that will support 6Gwhich is expected to begin replacing the current generation of mobile network from 2030. The solution was developed by the manufacturer in partnership with students from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).

According to the company, the technology is called Self-healing (“self-repair”, in free translation) and should be part of Radio Stripes, a component still in the development phase in the Swedish manufacturer’s laboratories that will be capable of uniting thousands of small malleable antennas in a kind of “adhesive tape”.

With this technology, mobile access points will be able to compensate for possible failures caused by some type of damage to the infrastructure automatically, so that users do not have their connection interrupted or signal quality compromised.

“If part of the system’s tape were to break or a micro antenna suffered any damage, users close to the affected area would totally or partially lose the signal”, explains André Cavalcante, member of the team of inventors. “Self-healing works so that compromised users are automatically connected to other working parts of the tape.”
