(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jinbang Kim = “The president of a company who was not envious of a millionaire has been reduced to a homeless person.”
On the 22nd, on China’s Weibo (微博, Chinese version of Twitter), Shenzhen (深cheon) in Guangdong Province<土+川>), a 75-year-old homeless person emerged as a hot topic.
According to Chinese media Pengpai, the identity of the homeless man was confirmed to be Zhang Yuanchen (姜元陳), former chairman of Shenzhen Shenglongpa Food Industry Co., Ltd., who founded and managed three companies, once called a ‘millionaire’.
A native of Yantai, Shandong Province, Zhang started a successful clothing company in Yantai before running food companies in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
At the time, he owned more than 90% of the company and had hundreds of employees.
He aggressively expanded his business from 2003 to 2009, but eventually became indebted to the continued business expansion.
Eventually, Jang went bankrupt in 2017 when he was unable to pay off his bank loans, and in 2020 he began to live a homeless life wandering the streets of Shenzhen.
As an elderly man, he lived on the streets, collecting scraps and selling them or begging for food.
“My family abandoned me following bankruptcy,” Chang said in an interview with Peng Pai.
It has been confirmed that Jang has a wife, two sons and a daughter.
However, he left the family following a successful business in the 1990s, and has had little contact with the family since.
When the news of former Chairman Chang became known, his family decided to take him to his hometown of Shandong.
Jang’s son said, “We express our gratitude for the interest of netizens. We have never abandoned our father, and we contacted him several years ago, but we did not reach him.”
He continued, “I don’t want to talk regarding the pain of the past.” “I didn’t know that my father was so humble. Now everything has passed.”
