“From 15 to 20 cm of snow in the interior of the country and up to 40 cm in the Ardennes”: a big depression threatens Belgium

But that will soon be a distant memory. Indeed, the meteorologist Luc Trullemans announces that the temperatures will drop drastically from this weekend. “The sky will be clear and we will experience polar air which descends directly on our country”, he commented for our colleagues from SudInfo.

This Friday, the minimum temperatures will drop below 0°. It should be -1° in Brussels and -3° to -8° in the Ardennes. Temperatures that will continue to drop until Tuesday, the coldest day. The minima should reach up to -14° in the Ardennes and -7° in the center of the country. The maxima will oscillate between -3° and 1°.

A situation that worries Luc Trullemans. “An emergency notice has just been launched by the European model and Météo France is following this very closely too”, he continued. According to him, a big depression “filled with snow and rain” arrives via Brittany and will cross the south of Belgium.

Currently, we are only talking regarding a forecast and it is not certain that this depression will affect Belgium. But if it is confirmed, Belgium might experience a difficult situation. “We might reach 15 to 20 cm in the interior of the country and up to 40 cm of snow in the Ardennes”, assures Luc Trullemans. The weather might therefore cause ice and you will have to be careful on the roads. If it occurs, this depression should last until Thursday.
