Fritzbox 7530 AX gets the first FritzOS update in over a year

2023-07-07 10:03:00

Three other AVM routers and two repeaters will receive updates to FritzOS 7.56: the Fritz boxes 7530 AX, 7583 (G.fast) and 7583 VDSL as well as the Fritz repeaters 3000 AX and 1200 AX. In particular, owners of the Fritzbox 7530 AX have reason to be happy, because the last official update for the WLAN router came in April 2022 – at that time on FritzOS 7.31.

The extensive innovations with the 50s versions were only available as laboratory versions, so there was no guarantee that the firmware would run error-free. Other routers have received updates much more often, including the older Fritzbox 7530 sister model without Wi-Fi 6.

With FritzOS 7.56, the Fritzbox 7530 AX now integrates the Wireguard VPN, which other routers have already received with FritzOS 7.50, in addition to the improved changeover assistant to a new Fritzbox. The Wireguard VPN runs significantly faster than the alternative IPsec technology and is useful, for example, in the home office if you want to access the company network via VPN connection.

In addition, the firmware update expands the smart home functions if you want to use the Fritzbox as a control center. From now on, the connected devices are automatically prioritized under the hood and Zero Wait Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) ensures a continuous WLAN connection in the event of radar pulses.

The FritzOS updates for the Fritz boxes and Fritz repeaters can be downloaded from the web interface nudge. In the case of the WLAN router itself, you click on the FritzOS version at the top right, with the repeaters you have to switch to the “Home Network” tab and then “Mesh” or “Home Network Overview” to initiate an update.
