This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Thursday. The game takes place on Saturday (6.30 p.m.) in the Allianz Arena in Munich. 45-year-old Fritz is in charge of the duel between FCB and BVB for the fifth time in all competitions.
Most of the time, the 45-year-old showed extremely appealing performances, convincing among other things with his generous line.
Twice he was in the duel Bayern – Dortmund but also unintentionally the center of attention. In the last game of the top teams that Fritz officiated, he missed a foul by Mahmoud Dahoud on Kingsley Coman. The VAR intervened, Fritz corrected himself and decided on a penalty. Bayern won 4-2.
An even greater excitement took place years earlier in the final of the DFB Cup. In a gripping duel that Bayern narrowly won on penalties in Berlin 2016, Fritz avoided a possible first-half red card for Franck Ribéry, who had grabbed Gonzalo Castro in the face – following he had previously been fouled by Julian Weigl.
There was no VAR at the time, and many a BVB fan must have remembered the scene to this day. Bayern would have had to play around 50 minutes outnumbered if Fritz had decided on assault. Arturo Vidal was also allowed to play through, although he might have been sent off with yellow-red.
Also interesting: All three Bundesliga games (second half of 2020/21, second half of 16/17, first half of 2014/15) won the hosts by at least two goals when Fritz was on the whistle.
Dominik Schaal and Marcel Pelgrim assist him on the sidelines, the fourth official is Frank Willenborg. Benjamin Brand acts as video assistant.
