We are thrilled to welcome celebrated Dutch personality Frits Barend to Archyde today. Mr.Barend, news has broken about your exciting new venture – a role in the upcoming musical “40-45.” What can you tell us about this unexpected turn in your illustrious career?
Well, after the success of the “Even tot hier” support program, I was looking for a new challenge. When the opportunity arose to join the cast of “40-45,” I couldn’t resist. this musical holds a special place in my heart as it tells a profound story of resilience and hope during World War II, a period that deeply impacted us all.
Your diverse career spans television and radio, but this will be your stage debut. What draws you to this medium, and how are you preparing for such a demanding role?
I’ve always been drawn to the transformative power of storytelling. While television and radio have their own magic, there’s something truly unique and immediate about live theater.
It’s a thrilling challenge to embody a character on stage and connect with audiences in such a visceral way. I’m working closely with the director and fellow cast members to bring the story alive. It’s a collaborative effort, and I’m learning so much from these talented individuals.
Sources close to the production hinted at a “playful” and unexpected approach to your role. Can you share any insights into the character you’ll be portraying?
Let’s just say it’s not your typical wartime character. There’s an element of lightheartedness and surprise woven into the role, wich I think will add another dimension to the overall narrative. I want to bring a sense of joy and optimism to the stage, even amidst the darkness of the period.
This new venture marks a fascinating chapter in your career.
Do you think this foray into theatre might inspire other television personalities
to explore this medium, or is it truly a unique path for you? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
