On December 18th, friends and fans of Motörhead frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister gathered at Stringfellow’s gentlemen’s club in London to celebrate teh life of the legendary rocker. A portion of Lemmy’s ashes were placed at one of his favorite haunts, allowing fans and friends to pay their respects and reminisce in a space where he felt at home.
The intimate ceremony, led by longtime motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell, featured heartfelt speeches, toasts to Lemmy’s memory, and a soundtrack of his iconic music. Superfans Mick Stevenson and Rob Kiewik shared their memories, while Marcus Delaoglou, son of drummer Mikkey Dee, who grew up alongside Lemmy, was also in attendance.
This event is part of the “Lemmy Forever” initiative which aims to make Lemmy’s memory accessible to fans worldwide. Similar ceremonies have been held at West Hollywood’s Rainbow Bar & Grill, as well as major music festivals like Hellfest, Wacken, and Bloodstock – events Lemmy always looked forward to.
“Lemmy wasn’t the type of rock star that wanted to be kept away from the fans,” said Todd singerman, Motörhead’s longtime manager. “He was the kind of guy that anyone could have a drink and conversation with, in fact, he would end up buying them a drink!”
“We encourage people to visit him,” Singerman added. “He was always a man of the people, so come and toast him, re-tell your favorite stories with friends, give your confessions to him, whatever you may have wanted to speak with Lemmy about at the end of a bar, you’ll now always have your chance.”
Stringfellow’s, owned by Peter Stringfellow, was a legendary hotspot for celebrities and rock stars in the 1960s. It was a favorite haunt for icons like The Beatles, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd. For Lemmy, it became a London institution, a place to relax and enjoy the rock and roll lifestyle. He was a frequent visitor, especially during his European tours, making Stringfellow’s a fitting place to honor his memory.
